hello, im not sure how to start this. could someone help me through the question?

It appears there are 2 separate questions. In the first do as JeffM said in post #2

In the second, as you suspected, just plug in [MATH]h=10.4[/MATH] and evaluate [MATH]d[/MATH]
 
i replaced d with 8.2...then calculated it by simplifying, converting, cross multiplying, and dividing each side. and i ended up with 44.826

where do i go from there

That answer is almost correct. The answer to 3 decimal places is 44.827. You rounded incorrectly. If you are asked for an answer to three decimal places you must look at four decimal places. If n decimal places are needed for an answer, you must calculate to n + 1 and then round.
