A hockey team played 12 games. They won two more than they lost. They lost one more than they tied. How many games did they win, lose and tie?

my answer:

w +(w + 2) + (w + 1) = 12

book answer:

x +(x + 1) + [ (x + 1) + 2] = 12

Please explain and show steps. Thanks

{L = T + 1
{L + W + T = 12

Solve the system of equations for L, W and T (loss, win, tie).

x +(x + 1) + [ (x + 1) + 2] = 12

That leads to 3x = 8; so book wrong!
Something wrong with the problem: you sure it's not 13 games?
