Dear all, how could I solve the following please: 1/(2x-1) - 1/ (4x+2) = 1

Hello, and welcome to FMH! :)

Try factoring the denominator of the second term on the LHS...what do you get?

You need to first find out what the common denominator would be (no need to get common denominator) and then multiply both sides by that factor(s). This will clear out all denominators. Now solve for x, but keep in mind that for example (x-5)/(x-5)\(\displaystyle \neq\)1 so you need to make sure that your answers are really answers. If you do not understand this then please let us know.
