We have the function: .y .= .(x + 2)(x - 3) . . and we are asked: "When is the graph above the x-axis?" We find that it is an up-opening parabola with x-intercepts -2 and 3. Looking at the sketch, the solution is: .x < -2 .or .x > 3. . . or: .(-∞, -2) U (3, ∞)
