I really need help on this problem:

What is the slope of the line: x/6 - y/9=1?

I think it is 6, after converting it to y=mx+b. But I'm not sure. Can anyone help me?

The \(\displaystyle x\text{-interrcept is }(6,0)\) and the \(\displaystyle y\text{-interrcept is }(0,-9)\).

Use those two points to find the slope.

That is the correct procedure . . . but how did you get 6?

\(\displaystyle \text{We have: }\;\dfrac{x}{6} - \dfrac{y}{9} \;=\;1\)

. . . . . . . . . . .\(\displaystyle -\dfrac{y}{9} \;=\;-\dfrac{x}{6} + 1\)

\(\displaystyle \text{Multiply by -}9\!:\;\;y \;=\;\frac{3}{2}x - 9\)


\(\displaystyle \text{The slope is }\dfrac{3}{2}.\)
