can some one solve this because i have no clue what to do.

g(x)=xsquared-4x+1

g(3a)+1

find each value

Re: can someone help me

I'm not sure why the instruction states to find "each" value because I only see one exercise.

A definition is provided for a function named g.

Do you understand function notation?

The symbol g(3a) is function notation; it represents the value of function g evaluated at x = 3a.

Therefore, the expression g(3a) + 1 is obtained by first evaluating function g at x = 3a and then adding 1 to the result.

We do not, in general, provide lessons at this site. If you really have no clue what to do, then perhaps you've been placed in the wrong course.

Do you know how to do basic algebra? For examples, do you know how to complete the following multiplications?

(3a)^2 = ?

4(3a) = ?

CLICK HERE FOR LESSONS ON FUNCTION NOTATION.

If, after reading over these lessons, you still cannot evaluate function g at x = 3a, then please come back and tell us why, so that we may know how to help you further.

Cheers,

~ Mark :)

g(x) = x^2 - 4x + 1

g(3a) + 1 = [(3a)^2 - 4(3a) + 1] + 1 = 9a^2 - 12a + 2

OOP! for the last entry. I forgot the 9...

I just learned that Fast Eddie knows how to do this exercise; I may never learn anything more about the original poster's abilities.

since your so smart can you tell me if this is right

g(x)=xsquared-4x+1 find each value

g(a)+1

I came up with 2 as an answer

g(x) = x[sup:3qtxgejg]2[/sup:3qtxgejg] - 4x + 1 ...

Find g(a) + 1

I came up with 2 as an answer

Larry:

The only way that we can say g(a) = 1 is if we know that a = 0.

Did somebody tell you that a = 0?

To whom are you speaking when you use the pronoun "you"?

Also, how old are you? Is English your native language?

Cheers,

~ Mark :)

It seems to me that you do not understand functions.

Please show your work, so that I may see how you arrived at the following.

g(a) + 1 = 2

3a+1=xsquared-4x+1
3a+3a squared-4(3a)+2
3a squared-12a+2
3a+9a-12a+2
12a-12a+2
2

I have no clue if it's right

Is English your native language, Larry?

3a + 1 = x[sup:1jqxkrpa]2[/sup:1jqxkrpa] - 4x + 1 ? Where did this equation come from?

Are you changing the exercise? The equation you typed has nothing to do with evaluating g(a) + 1.

You've done more than misspell one word, but thank you for answering the question about your native language.

How old are you?

From what class does this exercise come?

Did you read the previous lesson on function notation?

DO YOU UNDERSTAND FUNCTIONS?

The directions state, "g(x)=xsquared-4x+1, find each value"

the question is g(3a)+1

Ah, I now understand that you are returning to the original exercise.

I will forget about g(a) + 1.

What is it that you do not understand about the complete solution to your original exercise which is written by Fast Eddie in this thread?
