3/c-2 - 1/c+1 = 7/c^2 -c-2

This is how far I got: Could you tell me what I am doing wrong? And how to go far more:

3 1 7
===== - ====== = =======
c-2 c+1 (c-1) (c+2) LCD is (c-2)(c+2)

(c-2)(c+2)*(3 /c-2 - 1/ c+1) = (c-2)(c+2) (7/(c-1)(c-2))

(c+2) (3- 1/c+1) = 7

This is where I can't go any farther. Answer should be c=1

Sure do like you all! :wink: Hope I did it right this time with the code part!

Code:
[code]
You MUST Type between the code symbols!
[/code]

3/c-2 - 1/c+1 = 7/c^2 -c-2
Nothing wrong with showing that way, BUT you need brackets:
3 / (c-2) - 1 / (c+1) = 7 / (c^2 - c - 2)

Here's a WHY example:
10 / 2 + 3 = 5 + 3 = 8
10 / (2 + 3) = 10 / 5 = 2 : clear nuff?

3 / (c-2) - 1 / (c+1) = 7 / (c^2 - c - 2)
[3 (c +1) - 1(c - 2)] / [(c-2) (c+1)] = 7 / [(c - 2)(c + 1)]

Since denominators are same, remove them:
[3 (c +1) - 1(c - 2)] = 7
3c + 3 - c + 2 = 7
3c - c = 7 - 3 - 2
2c = 2
c = 2/2 = 1

On the "remove denominators if same":
(2+3) / 7 = (1 + 4) / 7
2 + 3 = 1 + 4 : s'that clear?

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by typing between the code symbol???
I am so not user friendly....sorry.

Thanks Denis for your help. I am getting clearer on this. The only reason I am doing this math is so I can help my three children. My oldest son is in 9th and sometimes needs help with his math. Thanks.
